Caitlyn Jenner touched on the fact that she hadn’t been very involved with her older children from her two previous marriages while those kids were growing up, but it looks like she’s now intent on mending her relationships with her children. Cassandra Jenner, Caitlyn’s daughter from her marriage to Chrystie Scott, says she has a much better relationship with Caitlyn than she did with Bruce.

Cassandra said:
My relationship with Caitlyn is much better than with Bruce, but we still have a lot of work to do. We didn’t talk for years, and now we see each other every couple of weeks and talk on the phone, which I am grateful for.
“[Caitlyn’s] happier and more appreciative of her family. She is trying harder and there is a softness to Caitlyn that is new to me. I think part of that is that when someone is happier, they are just nicer.”
Caitlyn herself has said she’s much happier now that she’s no longer “living a lie,” and Cassandra said they enjoy talking about “girly” things like makeup and clothes, but she wants her mother to understand:
There is so much more to being a woman than our external appearance. I am really looking forward to exploring that more with her.”
SO true. Being a woman is about a lot more than elegant clothes, makeup, and hair!

Cassandra and her brother, Burt, found out about that their father was transgender years ago (when Burt was 13 and Cassandra was 11), when then-Bruce began the gender transformation process in the 1980s with hormones. Their mother Chrystie explained it to them. However, it doesn’t sound like they had much of a relationship with their father even then. Caitlyn admitted that she suggested Chrystie get an abortion when she got pregnant with Cassandra, since they were in the middle of a divorce, but “rejected it after about 30 seconds.” However, Caitlyn wasn’t present for her birth. Cassandra said:
I never knew he wasn't at my birth until I was about 13 years old and we were arguing on the phone about money. He kept saying, 'You don't know the whole story'. I hung up the phone and was asking my mom what he was talking about until she confessed the history behind my birth."
OUCH. I’m not sure what all that has to do with money, but it must’ve been quite a shock for Cassandra! She’s now married with children of her own, and she says she’s looking forward to developing a relationship with Caitlyn. It sounds like there’s a lot to work through, but they’re willing to do it.
Caitlyn has said her gender identity issues prevented her from being an involved parent, but it also sounds like what a lot of divorced fathers experience with their children: they become distant from them. I mean, she was able to be a hands-on stepparent with the Kardashian kids as well as with Kendall and Kylie, so it wasn’t like her gender identity issues kept her from being able to be a parent completely.
Something tells me that, if Caitlyn has her way, at least some of the reunification process will be on camera for the second season of her reality TV show (the show already has a two-season option, which it will likely get) since her kids opted not to appear on the first season.
