Even though most of our brains were like “One of these is enough, really“, Megyn Kelly’s second interview with the Duggar family happened last night. We already knew that Josh Duggar’s sisters Jill and Jessa Duggar have forgiven him for molesting them when he was a teenager, and now we have the rest of what Jill and Jessa Duggar have to say about this whole situation. And while it wasn’t nearly as gross as the first, thanks in part to there being no surprise appearance by the family’s patriarch and puppet master Jim Bob Duggar, it was still pretty depressing. You know things are bleak when you find yourself saying “Well, the good news is, at least we don’t have to stare at Jim Bob Duggar’s creepy Bill Dauterive-looking ass for 29 minutes.”
Megyn Kelly (who sort of looked like she was styled by Carmela Soprano) spent 29 minutes talking to Jill and Jessa, aka letting them recite the answers that were given to them about how what Josh did to them is not that bad, and forgiveness, and he was just a kid, and that yeah, they’re victims, but not like victim victims.
Jessa on how Josh wasn’t child molesting, he was just being curious: “I think in the case of what Josh did, it was very wrong. I’m not going to justify anything that he did or say it was okay. It’s not permissible. But I do want to speak up in his defense against people who are calling him a child molester or a pedophile or a rapist. That is so overboard and a lie, really…In Josh’s case, he was a boy, a young boy in puberty, and a little too curious about girls.”
Jessa on how what Josh did isn’t really even that bad: “The extent of it was mild, inappropriate touching on fully-clothed victims, most of it while girls were sleeping.”
Jill on how Josh did the right thing by stepping up and admitting he might have done a wrong: “We didn’t even know about it until he went and confessed it to my parents. It wasn’t like we were keeping a secret, afraid or something.”
Jessa on not knowing she was molested until her parents told her she was molested: “I was like, shocked, and kind of like, ‘Okay, this is strange.’ I didn’t know, I didn’t understand, ‘Okay, this is what’s happened’ until my parents told me.”
Jill on how it’s not that bad because it could have been worse: “In our case, it’s very mild compared to what happens to some young women.”
Jessa on how their situation is so different from other molestation victims, because Josh was “subtle” about it: “He’s very subtle in the way that, like, he knew in his mind ‘My actions are wrong, and I have bad intentions’, but he was very sly, like, the girls didn’t catch on. It was like, okay, if he catches a girl sleeping, you know, a quick feel or whatever. Or like if you’re not really aware. In the situations where the girls were awake, they weren’t aware of what was happening. It was very subtle. For us, it’s like, we realize this is serious, but at the same time it wasn’t like a horror story, or like, this terrible thing.”
Jessa on Josh’s enablers: “I think my parents, I can see looking back as an adult now, they handled the situation very well.”
Jill and Jessa on the “safeguards” that were put into place after Josh admitted to touching his sisters: “You know, not being alone. My parents said ‘Okay, we’re not going to this hide-and-seek thing where two people go off and hide together’. Locks on the doors.” “Not babysitting girls.”
Jessa and Jill side-eying how the information about Josh’s history of molesting was released: “The Freedom of Information Act is not – you can’t FOIA a juvenile case, everybody knows that. And so I think there’s probably some hokey-pokey going on there. I don’t know what the whole deal was.” “There may be an agenda. I know that the tabloids that released this [InTouch], they’re used to exploiting women. The parent company…” “Yeah, well, Bauer, they’re a major porn provider. So I don’t know if they’re just used to making objects out of women.”
Jill on how publishing Josh’s molestation information might prevent victims from coming forward in the future: “I feel for the other victims out there and other families who, maybe the parents may take a pause before they do something to report or to take care of what’s going on, and maybe these other victims will continue to live just not even having their situations dealt with.”

Megyn Kelly has said before that she’d love to interview Josh, but for now The Kelly File has only spoken to Jim Bob, Michelle Duggar, and Jill and Jessa. For the sake of my stomach, I sort of hope it stays that way. I’m pretty sure I’ve developed an ulcer from feeling all kinds of not right while hearing Jill and Jessa recite the answers Jim Bob gave them before the interview. Yes, it could be the 4 liters of coffee I drink every morning, but I’m going to blame it on the feeling I got from picturing Jim Bob and Josh passing out a bunch of home-made pamphlets titled “So You’ve Decided To Forgive Your Brother” to everyone in the family.
