She’s portrayed some of Saturday Night Live‘s most memorable characters, so it’s no surprise that Molly Shannon loves being creative with her kids.
Her daughter Stella, 11, and son, Nolan, 10, with husband, artist Fritz Chesnut, especially appreciate their mom’s talent while playing with their friends.
“I play Truth or Dare [with them] and they love it,” Shannon tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “My dad was really wild and silly when we were little so it’s just so much fun.”
Shannon, 50, says the dares can take place anywhere from a street in their neighborhood to a local Coffee Bean. “I’ll say, ‘I dare you to go in and ask for an application,’ ” she explains. “Or go into an exercise place and ask if they have a gentleman’s workout. Or like I dared one of my daughter’s friends to go up to a stranger and say, ‘Isabelle? Isabelle?’ ”
The actress, who stars in the new film Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, and will next be seen in the Netflix series Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, a prequel to the 2001 comedy, says there are strict rules for the game.
“You can never do anything mean, it has to be something that would make people feel good,” she adds. “But it’s just silly, silly stuff. We die laughing.”
So do the kids ever ask for truths? “Um, no,” Shannon says. “They really only like the dares.”
