Patrick Dempsey Not Retiring From Acting

For those of you still mourning the shocking death of McDreamy, take heart: you will have a chance to see Patrick Dempsey acting again, even if he won’t be Dr. Derek Shepherd. He spoke about his future plans during an appearance at the Indianapolis 500.

Patrick said of his professional future:

I’m not retiring from acting.”

However, he’s not giving up racing.

I definitely love racing. I love the camaraderie and the fellowship. I think the challenge is with oneself and not so much your fellow competitors, necessarily.”

He developed an interesting in racing when he was a child from his father, when they would listen to the Indy 500 broadcasts.

It started way back then. I’m getting ready to go to Les Mans in about a week’s time. I just love it. It’s really stimulating both physically and mentally.”

I’m still scratching my head over his abrupt departure from ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ He was in the first year of a two year contract, so it wasn’t a contractual issue. He hasn’t said anything about actually wanting to leave the show. There were some rumors that he was fired over an affair with a young staffer on the show, but his rep dismissed that rumor. There have been rumors that he’s a diva on set, but honestly, those rumors are nothing new. What in the world happened? Well, whatever happened, you haven’t seen the last of Patrick as an actor.

And don’t bother complaining to Shonda Rhimes about McDreamy’s death on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ either. Here’s what she tweeted in response to one (very rude) tweet:
